A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME
Hi, my name is Michael John Murphy (just Mike or Murph for short). In addition to being the founder and creative director of Born by the Sea, I've been a lifestyle/commercial photographer who specializes in photographing people and places. For the past 20 years, I've been commuting back and forth to New York City and international airports to shoot for clients including Ralph Lauren, Cadillac, Prada, L'Oreal and many more. As my career grew and changed, so did my personal life. I became a husband to my wonderful wife Kelly, a local nurse and incredible mother to our 2 year old son, Aidan. Now as summer turns into fall, we excitedly await the arrival of our baby girl in October. (And how could I leave out our 4-legged friends: PePeoPe, Daisy Mae and Charley....)
When 2020 began, I don't think any of us could imagine what the year had in store for us. Personally for me, I took the time to reevaluate the important things in my life and family and to shift priorities and expectations. Born by the Sea, a photo book I was laying out consisting of a collection of portraits and places from my travels over the past 2 decades, turned into a much bigger idea/project. Borrowing the title from my book, I'm beyond excited to announce Born by the Sea and to shift all my focus into my hometown and Long Beach Island region. Born by the Sea is everything that means the most to me and my family and now I want to extend that to you, with one clear mission, which is telling the "story of you."
Born by the Sea was formed with the intention of being a one-stop shop for your photography needs... where clients are paired with the perfect artist for their important project or special day. As time goes by, I hope Born by the Sea will grow, not just as a business but also serve as a home for a collective of local and visiting artists.
